Monday's release of the shortened version of the 2020 schedule didn't quite stack up to the usual flurry of excitement. Commissioner Manfred and the league had sought 14 teams for the 2021 season but could not broker an agreement with the union for the players. The pandemic-shortened 2020 season saw 16 teams in the postseason. The hope for the Worldwide Leader is that as part of the next labor deal between MLB and the MLBPA those additional teams are added to the Wild Card Series. A key piece of the agreement has ESPN exclusively televising the entire MLB Wild Card Series starting in 2022 if the number of teams increases. ![]()
